| Ravenna Township daycare reopens after CO scare
Young Friends Child Care in Ravenna Township re-opened for business Friday morning, two days after a gas leak forced the evacuation of more than 20 young children and adult staff. "We reopened at 6:30 a.m. (Friday) morning," said Dan Hamblin, corporate director for Young Friends Child Care Inc. "All our students are back and were happy everything turned out safely. Our parents were really appreciative. Wednesday was very hectic and stressful and they were happy how we handled things and were happy to be back." Kevin Federline has called for an emergency court hearing over ...
Kevin Federline has called for an emergency court hearing to discuss his child custody dispute with Britney Spears today (22.02.07). The 28-year-old and his lawyer are scheduled to appear at a Los Angeles courthouse for an emergency hearing regarding custody of five-month-old Jayden James and 17-month-old Sean Preston. Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said: "Our best information is he will be here, she won't. But anything is possible." A temporary court order issued on February 1 currently grants Kevin and Britney joint custody until the end of this month. Parachini said Kevin's lawyer will insist the matter of custody is urgent enough to be fast tracked. Britney - who checked herself out of rehab for the second time in six days on Wednesday (21.02.07) - met with Blair Berk, a prominent criminal defence lawyer who represented Mel Gibson in his recent drunk-driving case.
Doctor Out of Jail on Bond
The Cobb County pediatrician accused of molesting his 13-year-old babysitter has now been fired from the clinic where he worked. His lawyer says he's innocent. "From what I understand when the investigators brought him in and questioned him, he was extremely nervous," said Officer Scott Luther of the Kennesaw Police Department. Attorney Page Pate is representing 39-year-old Dr. Charles Corley, a pediatrician who faces charges fo molesting his 13-year-old babysitter. "I mean, I would be much more concerned if someone were not nervous or upset when they were charged with this kind of offense," Pate said. "It was obviously a big surprise to him. He was not expecting this. The allegations are a surprise not just to him, but to his family as well." According to police reports, the girl says she was molested three times between July and October 2006, inside the doctor's Kennesaw home.
Preschool where PM unveiled plan gets cold feet
A preschool centre where the Government made its election promise of 20 hours of free childcare a week is getting cold feet about the scheme. The Tots Corner private care centre where Prime Minister Helen Clark and Trevor Mallard, then education minister, announced the scheme in a blaze of pre-election publicity in 2005 is understood to be considering imposing a surcharge on the "free" offer. The Northcote centre will neither confirm nor deny a claim on TV3 that it is considering imposing a $50-a-week surcharge on the much-vaunted 20 hours, an arrangement the Government will not sanction under proposed rules of the scheme, due to be introduced on July 1. Parents now pay $245 a week, or $55 a day, for a child to attend the North Shore centre. Owner Lorraine Manuela refused to comment on the impasse yesterday, indicating that it remained a matter of discussion between the centre and parents.
